    Nailed! Bad News

Ugh. While I was at the bike shop today working out the particulars of my hard bags, YJ was up on a lift and the guy that is working on my bike pointed out a roofing nail stuck in the very center of YJ's relatively new SuperVenoms.

From what I understand, it would not be a good idea to "plug" it, which menas I'll be searching for a new rear tire. To make matters worse, the front and rear are matched. Ugh. Only about 1200 miles and very little wear on it too. (yes, I'm a conservative rider)

front and rear are matched at the individual tire level, or model? I can't really imagine at the individual tire level, so it should be okay to purchase a replacement front.

I wouldn't plug the tire, there's just too much depending on it. In a car, sure, perhaps on a bike with ABS, but otherwise no.

I have installed tubes in tyres with the problem you have, with no problem. But if you can afford a new tyre , I'd get one.
I ran over a nail on I 40 and pulled over immediately.
I had left my cell phone in my tool box at work, so after waiting an hour for someone I knew , to happen buy or the DPS to stop, (ya sure) I rode the bike home on the flat tyre, using dirt side streets. Needless to say , I replaced the tyre.

I would immediately take the tire off and send to me for inspection.
while you're at it, send both so you do not get plagued having an unmatched set.

seriously, I plugged a Wal-Mart boat trailer tire years ago and never had a problem. it's a cheap little tire that goes round-n-round much more than an 18" tire. 50 psi and highway speeds too...

what's the worse that can happen? a slow leak? let the flames begin...
